Hey folks, Adam Morley here with your weekly fishing report for Flagler News Weekly. If you’ve been down to the water lately, you probably noticed that the mullet run is officially underway and thick. We’re seeing them in the surf, inlets, and all the way into the flats and creeks of the Matanzas River. This time of year is prime for predator fish looking to fill up on bait, so get ready for some exciting action.
I’ve been hearing great reports of redfish hanging out at Matanzas Inlet, especially around the bridge. There are also some healthy mangrove snapper, anywhere from 12 to 15 inches, being pulled out of the area. It’s been a solid week for those targeting these species, and it’s only going to get better.
On the home front, my wife Janine has been taking her canoe out and killing it with redfish along the grass lines in the flats. She’s been working topwater lures and doing really well out there. If you’re looking to have some fun, grab your rod, and give that grassline fishing a try. Topwater action this time of year can be an absolute blast.
Lastly, I want to remind everyone that on September 14, we’re hosting a free High School Fishing Clinic at Genung’s Fish Camp from 10 AM to 2 PM. It’s a great opportunity for young anglers to learn the ropes, and we’ll have gear and guidance for all skill levels. Be sure to check out the attached flyer and QR code for more details.
Tight lines, everyone! See you on the water
Weekly Fishing Report: Hot Summer Action!
Brought to you by Chris from Skinny Water Lures
Hello, anglers! Welcome to this week’s fishing report! As we dive into the heart of summer, the weather has been heating up, and so has the fishing! With the current temperatures soaring, the best time to hit the water has been early morning or late afternoon when fish are actively feeding.
Fishing Highlights:
* Redfish, Trout, and Snook: The early morning topwater bite has been incredible! Focus your efforts around island points, oyster bars, and grass flats. Look for tailing redfish cruising the banks at first light. These fish are on the hunt, ambushing baitfish and crustaceans.
* Midday Strategy: As the sun climbs higher and temperatures rise, adjust your lure presentation. Switch to lures that can reach the bottom, like paddle tails or curly tail grubs. You’ll find redfish stacking up in deeper holes, seeking cooler waters.
* Snook Action: Good numbers of snook are being caught in the Bings Landing area! Target spots with structure and moving water for the best results.
* Juvenile Tarpon: Exciting reports of juvenile tarpon being caught around the old SeaRay canal have surfaced as well. Keep your eyes peeled for these acrobatic fighters!
With the upcoming change in moon phases, look for the bite to pick up even more in the next few weeks. Make sure to get out there and enjoy the fishing during these prime times.
Tight lines and happy fishing! 🎣
