MOORESVILLE, N.C. (August 27, 2026) – In the throes of a seminal season on the racetrack, that includes a pair of NASCAR Cup Series wins and the organization’s first berth in The Chase – NASCAR’s 10-race playoff format – Spire Motorsports secured a significant off-track achievement when the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) awarded the organization’s Mooresville, N.C., headquarters with the EPA’s prestigious ENERGY STAR certification.
According to ENERGY STAR’s website, an official website of the United States government, eligible commercial buildings must earn an ENERGY STAR score of 75 or higher, indicating the building operates more efficiently than at least 75 percent of similar buildings nationwide.
Originally constructed between 2008-2010, Spire Motorsports’ 77,000-square-foot facility was the vision of two-time NASCAR Cup Series Champion Kyle Busch and the former home of Kyle Busch Motorsports. The building sits on eight acres, that includes a host of geo-thermal wells, designed to optimize the building’s HVAC efficiencies and lessen the team’s impact on the utility grid and ultimately, the environment.
“Our team is always looking for ways to improve,” said Spire Motorsports President Bill Anthony. “That is not only on the track, but also how we operate every day. This accomplishment reflects our commitment to being a responsible member of the community, using energy more efficiently, and setting a positive example for others.”
In partnership with GGT Energy Solutions, Spire Motorsports’ Facilities Management Department enlisted ecom-energy, Inc., to facilitate the required benchmarking process and track the team’s utility usage over the previous 12 months.
The resulting information demonstrated the team significantly decreased its overall energy and water consumption and ultimately received an ENERGY STAR score of 76, meaning the team’s race shop outperforms 76 percent of similar properties nationwide. Spire Motorsports is the only NASCAR team facility across the sport to receive the respected accreditation.
The team campaigns the Nos. 7, 71 and 77 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1s in the NASCAR Cup Series and the Nos. 7, 71 and 77 Chevrolet Silverado RSTs in the NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series. The Mooresville, N.C., organization also fields the No. 77 410 sprint car in Interstate Batteries High Limit Racing competition.
Before applying, a building’s application must be verified by a professional engineer or registered architect who must verify all energy use is accounted for accurately, the building characteristics have been properly reported, and operates in accordance with industry standards for indoor environmental quality.
Spire Motorsports returns to the track this weekend for the NASCAR Cup Series’ regular season finale at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway where the team has earned one win, four top-five and eight top-10 finishes since its founding in 2018.
The Coke Zero Sugar 400 will be televised live on NBC, Saturday, Aug. 29 beginning at 7:30 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time. The 26th of 36 points-paying races on the 2026 NASCAR Cup Series calendar will be broadcast live on the Motor Racing Network and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio Channel 90.
