FLAGLER COUNTY, Fla. – Think Neighborhood Watch — but 10 times more exciting. Think teamwork, emergency preparedness and maybe even a little MacGyver-style problem solving when your community needs it most.
Flagler Volunteer Services is inviting Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) trained volunteers — and those interested in learning more — to a CERT Meet & Greet on Thursday, August 27, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Flagler County Emergency Operations Center, 1769 E. Moody Blvd., Building 3, in Bunnell.
When an emergency or disaster strikes, professional first responders can be stretched thin and help may be delayed. That’s where trained community volunteers can make a tremendous difference.
CERT volunteers learn skills that can help them safely assist their neighbors and communities during emergencies. The August 27 gathering is designed to bring trained volunteers together, help create or strengthen CERT teams and build networks throughout Flagler County that can activate when disaster strikes.
Imagine having trained volunteers throughout neighborhoods across the community who already know one another, understand their roles and are ready to work together when the unexpected happens.
That’s the goal — neighbors helping neighbors before, during, and after an emergency.
The Meet & Greet is an opportunity to connect with fellow CERT-trained volunteers, learn about upcoming training opportunities and explore how residents can create or join a CERT team.
Whether it’s a hurricane, severe weather event or another community emergency, being prepared isn’t just about having batteries, bottled water and a hurricane kit. It’s also about having people who are trained, connected and ready to help.
And you could be one of them.
Come meet other volunteers, learn how CERT works in Flagler County and discover how your skills could become part of a community-wide emergency response network.
