ORMOND BEACH, FL – June 15, 2026 – Ormond Main Street is launching a
year-long community awareness campaign, “30 Is the New 35,” designed to
encourage compliance with the recently reduced 30 mph speed limit along
Granada Boulevard between US-1 and A1A, helping to foster a safer, calmer, and
more enjoyable experience for residents and visitors alike.

The campaign follows the completion of the Florida Department of
Transportation’s traffic-calming improvements along Granada Boulevard, which
included enhanced pedestrian crossings, roadway design changes intended to
encourage slower speeds, and a reduction of the posted speed limit from 35
mph to 30 mph.

According to Ormond Main Street, the campaign is about much more than
traffic speeds. “This is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to help shape the
culture of our town,” said Becky Parker, Executive Director of Ormond Main
Street. “The way people drive through a community influences the way they
experience that community. We want the heart of Ormond Beach to be not just
a thoroughfare, but a destination where people can safely shop, dine, attend
events, and enjoy everything that makes Historic Ormond Beach special.”
Studies and examples from communities across the country have shown that
slower traffic can improve pedestrian safety, reduce traffic noise, support local
businesses, encourage walking, and contribute to a more welcoming and
enjoyable atmosphere.

The campaign’s primary public message is simple: “Slow Down and Enjoy the
Town!” Beginning June 15, campaign banners, posters, window decals, social
media messaging, and other educational materials will appear throughout the
community. Ormond Main Street will also distribute materials to local businesses
and community organizations to help spread awareness of the new speed limit
and its benefits.

The initiative is being conducted in partnership with the City of Ormond Beach
and with the support of the Ormond Beach Police Department. The campaign
emphasizes positive reinforcement, public education, and community awareness
while encouraging drivers to embrace the new speed limit as part of a broader
effort to enhance the atmosphere and charm of Ormond Beach.

The campaign kickoff will run for two weeks beginning June 15, with additional
awareness efforts planned quarterly throughout the coming year.
“Our goal is simple,” said Board Chair Billie Jo Kaler. “We want to help create a
culture where driving 30 becomes the norm rather than the exception. If local
residents embrace that change, visitors will follow, and the result will be a safer,
calmer, and more enjoyable Ormond Beach for everyone.”
