I am at a fairly large and popular convenience store. Lines are quickly developing. The manager instantly takes one of the three cash registers cutting the lines by 1/3 in 30 seconds.
He immediately says, “Please let me help you. This is my job too.” I respond, “That’s leadership. When the team needs support, you help out too.”
While busy, the other employees are now smiling. You can tell they like working for this leader.
Leadership means you do what it takes to support success of the mission and team. If it’s below you, then leadership is beyond you.
