Tell readers about yourself. How long have you been the FPC drama teacher, and why do you love it?

I have been the Drama teacher at FPC for the past 11 years.  I love it because I get to share my passion for theatre with others, be creative on a daily basis, and first and foremost allow young people to discover who they are as human beings.

You work closely with the students to perfect their craft. Why is it important for them to do nationally recognized shows like SpongeBob, Les Misérables and Disney’s Little Mermaid?

I believe doing nationally recognized shows brings a diverse audience to our shows as well as allows our students to be college ready for the industry. It is crucial for them to not just do shows written only for High School if they are going to be competitive, but I understand we must also be sensitive to standards within our community.

Who are the leads in this show, and what are some of their strengths?

There are actually quite a few leads in this production.  I think they are all strong singer actors in their own right, so I would hesitate to label them individually.  They are all also very dedicated and hard workers. The leads in alpha order are:

Eugene H. Krabs: Caleb Monroe

Patrick Star: Kian Mahoney

Sandy Cheeks: DeErra Jones

Sheldon J. Plankton: Zaid Evensen

Spongebob Squarepants: Mackinzie Rogan

Squidward Q. Tentacles: Logan Walden

Have we seen any of these young actors on other stages? If so, where?

Zaid Evensen has been quite active with the Flagler Playhouse.

What can you say about the talent coming out of Flagler Palm Coast High School’s Arts Education Department?

I can say our talent is strong across the county at both area High Schools.  Both Flagler Palm Coast and Matanzas High School have very active programs with driven performers who understand professional standards who shine both onstage and off.

Bonus: Is this a show for all ages? (What can adults get out of attending?)

This is surprisingly a show for all ages. I think adults will appreciate the message of the storyline; the very human costuming of characters; and most importantly the rock score contributed to by a diverse group of well-known artists such as David Bowie, Cyndie Lauper, John Legend, and Panic at the Disco.
