FLAGLER COUNTY, Fla. – The Florida Department of Transportation will be shifting traffic into the new roundabout configuration at the intersection of State Road (S.R.) 11 and County Road (C.R.) 304 (Cody’s Corner) in Flagler County.

This transition is expected to begin the week of August 26 and will change the current traffic pattern in the weeks to follow. The four-way stop at the intersection will remain in place until the new roundabout configuration goes into effect. The work schedule is subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances.

Once the roundabout configuration is in place, yield signs will replace the current stop signs, and barrels will be set up to guide motorists through the roundabout. Signage and message boards will also be used to direct motorists. Both S.R. 11 and C.R. 304 will remain open to traffic; however, single-lane closures with flagging operations can be expected throughout the project.

While there will be adjustments to the traffic pattern in the coming weeks, construction on the roundabout project will be ongoing for the next year with completion expected in summer 2025. Lane closures and project updates will be posted on the project webpage at https://www.cflroads.com/project/439156-1.

A roundabout is a circular intersection with no traffic signals, where traffic flows in a one-way counterclockwise direction. Key navigation rules include yielding to traffic already in the roundabout, not changing lanes or stopping, signaling before exiting, and yielding to pedestrians and bicyclists.

Compared to traditional traffic signals, roundabouts reduce the likelihood of crashes resulting in severe injuries and fatalities by up to 82 percent. Roundabouts also decrease the number of vehicle conflict points where crashes can occur, making the intersection safer for both motorists and pedestrians.

When driving through the work zone, drive alert, adhere to the posted work zone speed limit, avoid all distractions, be cautious of shifts in traffic patterns, and give yourself plenty of distance from the driver ahead of you.
