FLAGLER COUNTY, Fla. – The American Flag appeared on the horizon, and a roar of cheers rumbled through the crowd, before it transformed into a red, white, and blue pattern to close out the show to the tune of ‘America the Beautiful”.

The one night only Skyglow event on Saturday evening only drew a single, repetitive complaint – it wasn’t long enough. Clearly dazzling the audience, a desire to see more was the request onlookers.

“I loved it. It was like five minutes. They said it was going to be like 20 minutes. It went by really fast, but it was amazing,” gushed Carrie Sherk. “Pulling in, having our own chairs, coolers, we loved it.”

Melding the Past, Present, and Future

Sponsored by Nexus360, the lighted drone show was the first of it’s kind in Flagler County, and was nestled between the two-day airplane show “Warbirds Over Flagler”, at the Flagler Executive Airport.

Celebrating aircraft from a variety of generations, the event drew both aviation and aerospace aficionados to the airport along with members of the county’s veterans organizations who were on hand to talk with visitors during the Warbirds Over Flagler portion of the day.

It’s become a staple on the county’s events calendar, and Flagler County Commission Chairman Andy Dance was grateful to airport director Roy Sieger for continuing to make it a priority.

“Warbirds is a great event that brings all the residents out to the airport. They don’t get to step foot on this part of the airport near the runways, and we get to bring all these wartime planes to the airport for demonstrations,” said Dance.

“I think what’s really cool is we have all of the veteran booths here. All the different organizations, veterans organizations, are here to talk to everybody. It’s just a great family atmosphere and we enjoy doing this every year for the residents of the county,” he said.

The Skyglow show, a ticketed event drew additional attendees to the airport for the show, with hundreds in attendance.

Organizers Greg Blose and Kelly Navarro were thrilled with the evening’s success.

“Both Kelly and I are so thankful for the huge community turnout and for the support of the Flagler Executive Airport,” said Blose.

The show lasted between 15-20 minutes and as the drones organized into different shapes including a giant shark, a sea turtle, a sailboat, and even the Flagler Executive Airport logo, observers of all ages could be heard ooohing and ahhhing as they recorded footage of the displays.

“Our goal was to unite our community, honor our veterans and bring innovation and aerial entertainment to Flagler County. As local business leaders, it was great to see the community turnout! We look forward to hosting this event again,” he said.
