Daytona Beach, Fla. – As the cost of living continues to rise, Grace Community Food Pantry — the largest food pantry in Flagler County — is meeting a growing surge in demand for emergency food assistance, backed by a $6,000 grant from the Community Foundation and United Way of Volusia-Flagler Counties (CF/UWVFC).

The grant comprises $3,000 from the 2025–2026 Flagler Community Endowment and $3,000 from the 2025–2026 Food Security Endowment, a permanent fund established by CF/UWVFC over a year ago to support both immediate food relief and long-term food stability. Together, the funds enable the Pantry to purchase $30,000 worth of food — approximately 157,800 pounds, or an average of 40 pounds per family — reaching nearly 3,900 families.

“The grant from CF/UWVFC is enabling us to meet the current rise in visitors to the pantry, and for that we are extremely grateful,” said Pastor Charles Silano, Founder and Chairman, Grace Community Food Pantry.

Currently serving 1,200 to 1,400 families every week, the Pantry operates a multi-site distribution network across Flagler County: a Palm Coast location serving roughly 1,200 people each weekend; a Mondex site serving more than 300 people every other weekend; bi-monthly meat distributions at the A1A pantry; monthly distributions in Espanola; and weekly student backpack distributions reaching 65 to 75 students at schools countywide.

“We believe addressing hunger means feeding families today while building systems that prevent hunger tomorrow,” said Courtney Edgcomb, President and CEO, CF/UWVFC. “Investing in an organization like Grace Community Food Pantry — with the infrastructure, dedication, and community trust to deliver food at this scale — is precisely the kind of partnership that makes lasting change possible.”

CF/UWVFC remains committed to food security as a cornerstone of its grantmaking, partnering with trusted local nonprofits to ensure every neighbor has access to nutritious food — today and in the future.
