Palm Coast – The City of Palm Coast is recognizing National Hurricane Preparedness Week, May 3–9, 2026, as an important reminder for residents to take proactive steps ahead of the Atlantic hurricane season, which begins June 1 and runs through November 30.

Each year, Florida faces the potential impacts of tropical storms and hurricanes, and preparation remains one of the most effective ways to protect your home, your family, and your community. The city encourages residents to use this week as an opportunity to review emergency plans, gather supplies, and stay informed.

“Preparedness starts before a storm is ever in the forecast,” said City Manager Mike McGlothlin. “Taking time now to understand your risk, make a plan, and prepare your home can make all the difference when severe weather approaches.”

Throughout the week, the city will share daily tips across its social media channels to help residents prepare for hurricane season. In addition, the city will be releasing a series of short, informative videos and additional online resources designed to walk residents through key preparedness steps in a clear and accessible way.

Topics throughout the week will include:

  • Understanding your risk

  • Developing an evacuation plan

  • Helping neighbors and those who may need additional assistance

  • Writing down and reviewing your emergency plan

  • Assembling disaster supply kits

  • Strengthening your home ahead of a storm

As a reminder, beginning August 1, 2025, the State of Florida implemented a permanent sales tax exemption on select disaster preparedness supplies, making it easier for residents to prepare year-round rather than waiting for a limited-time tax holiday.

Eligible items include essentials such as batteries, portable generators, fire extinguishers, smoke and carbon monoxide alarms, among others. Residents can view the full list of qualifying items through the Florida Department of Revenue.

To stay informed, residents can sign up for AlertFlagler, a free emergency notification system that delivers alerts by phone, text, or email.
