Three out-of-town car thieves who made the mistake of entering Flagler County are captured thanks to the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO).
The suspect that has the most attention of law enforcement officials is the capture of a sex offender and fugitive-on-the-run.
24-year-old Kayla Worst of Arkansas will soon be headed home after FCSO caught her driving a stolen vehicle in Palm Coast Thursday. Worst was originally sentenced to prison on multiple charges, including Promoting Prostitution, Absconding, Failure to Comply with Sex Offender Reporting and Possession with Purpose to Deliver a Controlled Substance. She has also been previously
charged in Brevard County for Providing False Identification to Law Enforcement and was arrested in June 2021 for previously being a Fugitive from Justice.
Her capture began when Sheriff’s Deputies were issued a BOLO for a stolen Chevrolet Aveo vehicle just after 9:30 a.m., Thursday. Deputies found Worst and the vehicle reported stolen from Glades County, Florida in a Town Center parking lot. Thanks to the work of the FCSO Real Time Crime Center and the Community Policing Division, deputies were able to identify Worst as a fugitive wanted on a felony warrant in Arkansas.
Worst is being held on no bond at the Green Roof Inn while awaiting extradition to Arkansas.
The string of stolen vehicle arrests began just after Noon Wednesday as deputies would apprehended a pair of pick-up truck bandits in the next 32 hours.
Deputies would find a stolen Dodge Ram truck being driven by Raymond Asbell of Jacksonville on SR 100 & Commerce Drive midday Wednesday. A high-risk traffic stop was conducted and Asbell was arrested for Grand TheftMotor Vehicle without incident. He had initially rented the vehicle from Enterprise Rent-A-Car in January. After the truck was not returned, it was reported stolen on January 19.
FCSO would catch the latest truck thief just after 8 p.m. last night when they apprehended Steven Brown of Jacksonville. A call reporting Brown for reckless driving on Interstate 95 ultimately led deputies to the RaceTrac Gas Station on State Route 100. That’s where they found Brown and a Chevrolet Colorado truck reported stolen from Orange County. Brown was apprehended without incident and arrested for Grand Theft of a Motor Vehicle, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia/Equipment and Driving While License Suspended with Knowledge. Brown is being held in the Green Roof Inn on $3,500 bond.
“More criminals made the mistake of coming to Flagler County,” Sheriff Rick Staly said. “This is another example of how the technology we’ve implemented throughout the county and within the Real-Time Crime Center helps us apprehend criminals before they can prey on our community. I’m proud of our team for how these high-risk cases were handled and commend them for getting these car thieves off the street and in to the Green Roof Inn. Let this be a reminder to criminals that if you commit a crime somewhere else and come to Flagler County, we will find you and arrest you!”
