FLAGLER COUNTY, Fla. — This Saturday, June 20, animal lovers will have a special opportunity to meet dozens of resilient dogs looking for a second chance at life during a Meet and Greet adoption event at the Flagler County Fairgrounds.
The event will give prospective adopters the chance to meet the dogs, learn about their individual personalities, ask questions, and submit adoption applications. Organizers will be available throughout the event to help families determine whether one of these deserving dogs may be the right fit for their home and lifestyle.
Attendees should look for directional signage leading to the indoor event location and keep an eye out for the SMART Van.
67 Healing Hearts Learning What Safe Even Means
These 67 dogs were rescued from a severe hoarding situation where they spent much of their lives living in unsanitary conditions surrounded by feces and urine. Many have never experienced a normal home environment and are only now beginning to learn what safety, routine, and human trust look like.
Because of their difficult past, adopters should expect challenges as the dogs adjust to life in a loving home. Some may experience potty-training accidents, chewing or destructive behaviors, fearfulness, escape attempts, or food-guarding tendencies.
Organizers emphasize that none of these behaviors are the dogs’ fault. They are the result of years of neglect and a lack of basic life experiences.
What These Dogs Need Most
These dogs are not looking for perfect homes — they are looking for patient families willing to help them learn.
Successful adopters should be prepared to provide:
-
Structure and consistency
-
Crate training and a secure playpen or small confined area
-
Extra-tall gates to create safe spaces
-
Leash-only or supervised yard time initially
-
Patience while the dogs learn house training and build trust
-
Structured feeding routines, including feeding separately from other pets when needed
