WASHINGTON, D.C. — Senator Ashley Moody welcomed members of the Florida National Guard to her Washington office this week as the troops continue their assignment in the nation’s capital under President Donald Trump’s order to improve public safety.

Moody thanked the guardsmen for their service and expressed support for their role in helping protect communities in Washington, D.C.

“It was an honor to welcome Florida National Guardsmen to my office and thank them for their service to our state and nation,” Moody said. “These brave men and women play a critical role in our efforts to keep our communities safe, and I’m proud to support them and the President’s mission to strengthen public safety.”

According to information released by Moody’s office, the National Guard’s presence in Washington has been credited with helping reduce crime, including an 83 percent drop in carjackings, a 46 percent decrease in robberies and a 22 percent decline in overall violent crime. Officials also noted that the city went 12 days without a murder following the deployment of federal troops.

Moody has consistently supported efforts to strengthen public safety and the rule of law. She also continues to advocate for military members and veterans and was recently selected to serve on the Senate Committee on Armed Services.
