BUNNELL, FL – Flagler County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO) deputies made 11 arrests last weekend between 6 a.m. on Friday, September 15th, 2023, and 6 a.m. on Monday, September 18th, 2023. Over the weekend, deputies handled 845 calls for service and made 141 traffic stops.
“Yet another busy weekend for our deputies,” said Sheriff Rick Staly. “Once again, a teenager is arrested for acting tough while hiding behind their computer screen. Remember kids, threats have consequences, and we are always watching. Also, if you are about to get caught, don’t run. We will catch you and give you a place to stay at the Green Roof Inn.”
Freshman Arrested for Threatening to Bomb Flagler Palm Coast High School
On Sunday, a Flagler Palm Coast High School (FPCHS) student made an Instagram post about his yearbook pictures with a caption that said, “I’m going blow up the school if I can’t retake.”
With the assistance of Youth Services Division Sergeant Meehan, the subject was identified as freshman Jeffery Jenkins Jr., 14. Jenkins was ultimately arrested for Written Threats to Kill and was turned over to the Department of Juvenile Justice.
“I want to thank the FCSO for their quick response to this alleged threat,” said Flagler Schools Superintendent LaShakia Moore. “This is an important reminder for our parents to please talk with their children about what they post online. Even if a person posts something in a “joking” manner or thinks they’re posting in a private group, law enforcement treats all threats the same, and even “private” posts have a way of becoming “public.”
Sheriff Staly also wished to warn parents about monitoring their children online, “We see this time and time again – children ruining their futures over their behavior online,” said Sheriff Staly. “Social media can be a treacherous space, and as parents, it is our duty to teach children responsibility both on and off the web. Be the Sheriff in your home. We take every threat at face value to avoid a tragedy. No matter how small or unintentional they may be, consequences will follow.”
Driver Arrested with Narcotics, Cash in Vehicle
On Friday night, Corporal Lowe conducted a traffic stop on a grey sedan that had failed to stop at a left-turn red light at the intersection of SR 100 E & Belle Terre Pkwy.
As he approached the vehicle, Cpl. Lowe smelled the odor of cannabis emanating from the driver’s window, so he conducted a probable cause search. While searching the vehicle, deputies located a Ruger LCP .380, $2,271 in cash, and approximately 46 grams of cannabis, some of which was packaged prepackaged in small baggies.
The driver Hermes Rodriguez was arrested for Possession of Marijuana with Intent to Distribute and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon. He was transported to the Sheriff Perry Hall Inmate Detention Facility (SPHIDF) and was released after posting $10,000 bond.
Teen Arrested After Trying to Flee from FCSO
On Saturday, around 1:41 a.m., deputies discovered a group of individuals on Anderson St. who were walking in the middle of the road. Once the group reached the Circle K gas station on State Road 100, the deputies approached them to speak to them about their actions.
As the deputies gathered identification from the group, 18-year-old Isaiah Medders suddenly fled on foot. Deputy Huzior apprehended Medders in the parking lot, and a handgun fell from Medders’s waistband as he was detained.
Medders was arrested for Unlawfully Carrying a Concealed Firearm and Resisting Arrest Without Violence. He was additionally charged with a Violation of Probation. He was taken to SPHIDF and is being held on $6,000 bond.
