Turnover is at a record and persistent high in America today. The #1 reason talent leaves is the organization misled them, or they ignored the reality that they were not a good fit with this employer. There’s only one way to fix this.

Your character has to match the character of the employing organization. You have to share the same values. You have to agree on the same definition of success.

High performers need to be especially careful. They will never be happy unless they work for a high-performance organization. They love to contribute and can only succeed where their character and contributions are always encouraged and welcomed.

For too many organizations today, mediocrity is their mission. Some organizations love failure. In fact, they can’t get enough.

A small number of organizations in each industry embrace excellence as their single standard. This is the only home for high achievers.

As a general rule, employers do not change for employees. They attract, promote, retain, and replicate who they are not who you are (Maxwell).

Both of you are making a hiring decision. You are hiring them, and they are hiring you. We want this to be a positive, productive, and long-term relationship. Do your homework in advance – pick the employers who will value you.

Two of the greatest gifts we can give to others are our time and labor. Be certain of your values, goals, strengths, and with whom you work best. Only go to work for those who will give you the greatest opportunity to be your best.
