Last weekend our radio show Lifeline hosted guests Kimberly Puntillo from Visiting Angels, Lisa Goldberg and David Ayres. Lisa lost her father to Alzheimer’s this year and as his caregiver shared her heartbreaking, firsthand experience of the disease’s progression and how she is positively impacting the fight against the disease.
Visiting Angels was gracious enough to join the conversation to share how their staff can provide needed respite and support for caregivers or those choosing to live independently.
Many of us have been directly impacted by Alzheimer’s and the associated symptoms that come with the disease. My own dearly loved grandmother suffered from dementia the last few years of her life and it was devastating to watch the person so admired and loving change.
If you have a few minutes, please listen to the podcast here at this link. Today, Friday, June 20th is ‘The Longest Day’, a day recognized by The Alzheimer’s Association to bring awareness to the ongoing battle to cure the disease. Lisa Goldberg, a member of the Flagler Broadcasting family has been raising funds for this cause in her father’s name for several years, and after his passing this spring, has set a goal of $5,000 this year.
If you are so inclined to make a donation, you can donate directly to her team here.Â
ABOUT THE LONGEST DAY
The Longest Day participants fight the darkness of Alzheimer’s and all other dementia through a fundraising activity of their choice on a day that works for them. With sports tournaments, card games, parties, baking and more, participants raise funds to advance the care, support and research efforts of the Alzheimer’s Association.
You can fundraise year-round to make an even greater impact in the fight against Alzheimer’s. Host activities leading up to The Longest Day to increase donations and raise awareness for the cause. At your event, celebrate your fundraising success with family, friends and your community.
