PALM COAST, Fla. – The Flagler County Cultural Council (FC3) invites the public to the dedication and unveiling of MAX, turtle #22 on the public art Turtle Trail. MAX, inspired by pop artist, Peter Max and created by local artist, Sheryl Fletcher Coon, will be unveiled Wednesday, August 21 at 10:00 am at Marineland Dolphin Adventure, 9600 North Oceanshore Blvd (A1A), in the Town of Marineland.
Gaston King, Marketing Director stated “Marineland is thrilled to announce the arrival of MAX, the latest addition to the FC3 Turtle Trail. We are honored to be a part of this prestigious trail, which highlights the creativity of artists and the vibrancy of local businesses. MAX will be showcased next to our iconic coquina arch, a historic photo spot that has been a favorite among visitors from around the globe for 86 years. We are excited to see MAX become part of this cherished tradition, and
look forward to welcoming many guests to experience this unique piece of history in the years to come. We are honored that TD Bank sponsored this turtle and chose Marineland to be the beneficiary of this public art.”
“At TD Bank, we are passionate about engaging the communities we proudly serve in unique and thoughtful ways,” said Leon Kally, Regional Vice President – Northeast Florida for TD Bank. “Our donation of MAX represents a perfect opportunity to not only celebrate the work of a talented, local artist, but also promote Marineland’s important conservation and education efforts right here in our area.”
“It was such an honor to be asked to participate in the Turtle Trail project for the Flagler County Cultural Council. Painting a six-foot fiberglass turtle isn’t something an artist is asked to do every day! It was a learning experience, and I am proud to have my name associated with this project and group. MAX and I look forward to meeting everyone in August,” stated artist Sheryl Fletcher Coon.
“The Flagler County Cultural Council is proud to continue this public art Turtle Trail founded by the Palm Coast Arts Foundation in 2018. We are excited to continue sprinkling these popular turtles throughout Flagler County. We are particularly pleased to see the increase of area businesses supporting public art,” stated Nancy Crouch, Chair, Flagler County Cultural Council.
