BUNNELL, FL – On September 12, members of the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO) Problem Area Crime Enforcement Unit (PACE) initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle near White View Parkway and Whippoorwill Drive.
During the traffic investigation, Deputy Towns and K-9 Neo conducted a search of the vehicle and displayed positive indication of narcotics in the vehicle. During a search of the driver’s person, two baggies containing a white powdery substance fell to the ground from the driver’s pant leg. Approximately 15.24 grams of presumptive positive fentanyl and 8.95 grams of presumptive positive Mephedrone were located.
The driver, Derrick Morton of Palm Coast, was arrested for Trafficking Fentanyl – 14G – 28G and Possession of Cathinones. Morton is being held at the Sheriff Perry Hall Inmate Detention Facility on $102,500 bond. Morton was first arrested for Cocaine – Sale/Manufacture/Deliver in Volusia County in 2000 and was also arrested by FCSO several times between 2007 and 2011 by FCSO for similar offenses.
Since the beginning of 2023, Flagler County Sheriff’s Office Deputies have seized approximately 210 grams of fentanyl, which is enough to kill an estimated 105,000 people.
“Another poison peddler is in the Green Roof Inn for possessing potentially deadly narcotics,” said Sheriff Rick Staly. “Our PACE Unit has been focusing on getting this poison off our streets and the dirtbags who sell it including this guy who has already served over 10 years in prison for poison peddling.”
