Flagler Beach, FL – On Thursday, July 11, 2024, the Flagler Beach City Commission, upon second reading of Ordinance 2024-08, unanimously approved the adoption of a Juvenile Curfew Ordinance. The City Commissions decision was to “opt in” on Florida State Statute 877.22, which set parameters for “Minors”, under sixteen (16) years of age, who will be prohibited in public places and establishments during certain hours.
“The intent of the State Legislature and our City Commission with this Ordinance is to protect minors from harm and victimization, to promote the safety and well-being of minors, and to reduce the crime and violence committed by minors”, stated Chief Matt Doughney.
The City’s Ordinance, which follows Florida State Statue 877.22, became effective on July 11, 2024 affects minors under the age of sixteen (16) and the hours of the Curfew are as follows;
✓ (1)(a) A minor may not be or remain in a public place or establishment between the hours of 11:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m. of the following day, Sunday through Thursday, except in the case of a legal holiday.
✓ (1)(b) A minor may not be or remain in a public place or establishment between the hours of 12:01 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. on Saturdays, Sundays, and legal holidays.
Chief Doughney continued by stating that “The goal of the Ordinance is to have the youth of our community at home, with their families, and not out on the streets of Flagler Beach late at night or early in the morning”.

Chief Doughney concluded by stating “Our City and our County are currently experiencing tremendous growth. The newly enacted Curfew will be utilized by our Police Officers as a “tool” to help them identify underage youth that should be home, and provide them with the authority to return them safely to their families. Our youth are the future of our community, and the City’s Curfew is just one proactive way for us to help protect the youth that live in and visit our wonderful community”.
