Flagler Beach, FL (March 27, 2022) A caller forced an evacuation of the Flagler Beach Municipal Pier Sunday evening with a bomb threat, with the Flagler Beach Police Department closing down SR A1A from State Road 100 to 7th Street, South according to Flagler Beach Police Chief Matt Doughney.
Flagler County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Don Foley, said the agency is providing support for the Flagler Beach Police Department.
“We received a threat of possibly a bomb at the pier earlier this evening. A1A is shut down from State Road 100 to South 7th Street. The pier’s been cleared, there’s nobody on it. The beach is clear. We’re utilizing technology to make sure that we checked the pier properly and right now we’re waiting for St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office EOD department to actually come and clear the pier. There’s some backpacks on the pier that were left by people that were there when we got called and we just want to make sure that everything’s safe,” said Chief Doughney shortly after 8:30 p.m. on Sunday evening.
“We have not identified the individual that made the call. Not as of now.”
“Thanks to Sheriff Staly who’s got plenty of law enforcement to keep this area contained. The Sheriff’s Office is helping us out tremendously and working with them hopefully we can get this thing safely cleared and get back to a regular evening in Flagler Beach relatively soon,” said Doughney.
Residents are asked to stay away from A1A, the boardwalk and the pier until the situation is cleared. The Flagler Beach Police Department will update the public on their Facebook page when the scene has been cleared.
