The new year brings a new face leading the G.W. Carver Center in Bunnell.

Bonita Robinson, a long-time resident of Bunnell assumes the role of Site Manager on January 10, 2021. Robinson currently serves in the Dean’s office at Flagler-Palm Coast High School. She is a graduate of Flagler College, where she earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Public Administration.

Bonita Robinson is no stranger to Bunnell. She served as a Bunnell City Commission member from 2014-2016. Joshua Walker, the Coordinator of Community Services and County Interlocal Agreements for Flagler Schools and who oversees the Carver Center and Flagler County Youth Center says, “Ms. Robinson brings with her an invaluable amount of experience within the community and will be an incredible asset for the Carver Center. I look forward to working with her and the community as the Carver Center continues to grow and shine as a beacon in the community.”

For her part, Robinson says this position is a natural fit.

“The Carver Center has been the safe haven for residents living on the south side of Bunnell for generations. I come from a family of servers, and serving others is something I enjoy. I enjoy the challenge of community projects, as well as encouraging teens and young adults. I am grateful for this opportunity to serve the community that I grew up in because it’s my chance to give back and do what I enjoy most, making a difference in the lives of others.”

The G.W. Carver Community Center, which is a partnership between Flagler Schools and Flagler County is a vital piece of the Bunnell community. Both worked collaboratively in filling the position and were adamant to find the right person to fill the hole left with the retirement of Rev. Eli Emmanuel.

The center offers a variety of programs and services, including athletic leagues, after-school programs, and the “Road to Success” program which is designed for out of school young adults between the ages of 16 and 24 to earn their GED, prepare them to be members of the workforce, and improve their life skills.
