BUNNELL, Fla. — You may not imagine the Flagler County Clerk of Court & Comptroller’s Office as a place to find love in a galaxy far, far away, but Tom Bexley and his team brought the beloved sci-fi classic to life during a special May the Fourth wedding celebration at the Kim C. Hammond Justice Center.

The Justice Center transformed into a festive Star Wars-themed ceremony space as the Clerk’s Office hosted its first-ever themed wedding event in honor of the unofficial fan holiday inspired by the iconic franchise.

Three couples exchanged vows during the celebration, choosing to begin their lives together surrounded by lightsabers, galactic décor, and the spirit of the Star Wars universe. Adding to the joy of the occasion, one couple celebrating their 54th wedding anniversary renewed their vows, marking decades of commitment with a ceremony filled with nostalgia, fun, and community spirit.

Bexley shared heartfelt remarks during the event, reflecting on the enduring power of love and connection.

“In a galaxy not so far away, love remains one of the most powerful forces,” Bexley said. “It binds us, guides us, and gives our lives purpose — much like the Force itself.”

The themed celebration marked the first time the Clerk’s Office has hosted a Star Wars-inspired wedding ceremony, and the enthusiastic response from participating couples made the event especially memorable. While no additional themed ceremonies are currently planned, the Clerk’s Office continues to offer marriage services and vow renewals throughout the year for residents seeking meaningful and personalized experiences.
