The Flagler County Sheriff’s Office announced today that deputies on patrol and S.W.A.T. members have received $5,000.00 of life-saving tourniquet kits thanks to a grant awarded through the Preferred TIPS program.

The FCSO will use this grant to provide all current patrol deputies and SWAT team members with a tourniquet. Patrol deputies and SWAT members will also be issued a case worn on their duty belts to allow for immediate access to the tourniquets for quick application.  These tourniquets and duty belt cases will now be part of the standard equipment issued to all new deputies assigned to the community policing division.

All members of the agency have received in-service training on the use of these tourniquets.

“I have a phenomenal team that is not only dedicated to protecting this community but also saving our taxpayers money by pursuing grants,” Sheriff Staly said. “I pray that our deputies never have to use these tourniquets. This life saving-equipment is crucial to save lives during critical incidents or injuries.  Access to quick and immediate use of a tourniquet to address trauma-related injuries has proven to increase survivability rates.”

The Preferred TIPS program is a reimbursement program with matching training/safety incentives that can be applied for by any current member of Preferred insurance carriers, which the FCSO is. An agency that is eligible to apply may receive a matching incentive up to $5,000.00 per year.
