Palm Coast, FL – Attending the Water Safe event on June 5th, it was one more chance for Flagler County’s very own synchronized artistic swim team, the Synchro Belles, to remind the community that the team is on their way to national competition for the first time in many years.
Performing for attendees of the water safety event hosted by a number of community organizations at the Belle Terre Swim and Racquet Club, the competitive athletes talked with parents and children, sharing their hard work and collecting donations to help fund their trip to nationals set to be held in Colorado Spring, Colorado, on June 26-July 3, 2021.
Started in 2000, team captain Carolyne (Vasconcellos) Candell, once a Synchro Belle herself, is proud of the work done by the team to prepare.
“My mom actually founded the team 20 years ago and I swam, all throughout, went to college in Texas as well. She recently retired and kind of handed the baton over,” said Candell.
Recalling her own days on the team when her mother was the coach, Candell knows what it takes to go, fight, win, and says they’re all in for their appearance on the big stage.
“We made it before but haven’t made it in the past six years, so it’s been quite a bit of time,” said Candell. “It was a huge accomplishment for the girls, so they were pretty pumped.”
“All these girls are awesome,” she said. “It makes it easy to balance a full-time job and all of this, and I have an awesome coaching staff too that helps support.”
While team members demonstrated a routine in the pool, Candell said the young ladies take water safety seriously, and appreciate the opportunity to give back to a community that helps support their big dreams.
“This event holds a place near and dear to my heart. We’ve known a lot of people who have been close to that line which unfortunately happens pretty frequently here in Florida, especially with how many bodies of water are around,” said Candrell.
“We want to make an impact in the community and the girls love to be involved in any way they can, so we love helping and having fun with it.”
