To draw the byway community closer together, FDOT District Five is sponsoring a series of virtual “roadside chats” that offer valuable information to our byway organizations and has now partnered up with Ormond Scenic Loop & Trail National Byway to present our latest presentation Plant it and they will come. We invite you to participate in this month’s chat to be held June 10, 2021 between 6:30 PM and 7:30 PM as a Microsoft Teams Meeting. There is no charge to participate in these chats and each includes a 20-25 -minute prestation with 10-15-minute question and answer period. The goal of these chats is to encourage byway interactions and partnership. We invite you to bring along some dinner and dial in to what has become an excellent, well attended series of chats over the last few months. Feel free to share this invitation far and wide.

Claudia Calzaretta along with the OSL&T organization will serve as co-hosts for this chat. Melissa Lammers, previous president of Halifax River Audubon and member of Florida Audubon’s Central Florida conservation committee, will discuss how we can impact the environment on a small scale starting as individuals promoting the relationship between land and birds.

As conservation chair of the Pawpaw Chapter of the Florida Native Plant Society, Vice Chair and Campaign Manager of the Echo Volusia Forever Alliance, member of both the League of Women Voters of Volusia County’s Natural Resources committee and the Environmental Council of Volusia and Flagler Counties, Melissa Lammers, has devoted herself to environmental education. She now combines her love of nature with her professional experience to increase awareness and understanding of our fragile environment.

Growing up in coastal northeast Volusia County (along the Ormond Scenic Loop and Trail), Melissa has worked across the world and back to make a difference.

Melissa speaks on the shrinking habitats of animals that we greatly depend on to regulate our environments. Attendees will gain an understanding of Florida’s waters, its wild spaces, and our part in helping the relationship between birds and the environment.
