BUNNELL, FL – As the weather warms up and boating season begins, it is important to make sure your vessel is ready to hit the water. To help ensure everyone’s safety on the water, the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office Marine Unit is hosting a free Vessel Safety Check event on Sunday, April 28, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Herschel King Park in Palm Coast. Whether you are a first-time boater or a seasoned pro, this event is open to all boaters!
The FCSO Marine Unit will be set up in the southwest corner of the boat ramp area to perform safety checks on vessels and provide information on safe boating practices. Boats do not have to enter the water to be inspected. Each vessel that passes inspection will receive a sticker to show that the vessel has been checked for safety and is compliant with Florida boating laws. With this sticker, any potential interaction with law enforcement on the water in the future could be expedited.
“Safe boating is a serious responsibility, not just for yourself, but for everyone onboard and on the water around you,” said Sheriff Rick Staly. “Vessel safety checks may seem like a hassle, but getting your boat checked ahead of time can mean the difference between a relaxing day on the water and a tragic accident. Plus, it can save you time in the event you are stopped by a deputy on the water in the future. I encourage all residents with a boat to get it inspected by our Marine Unit this Saturday.
