SR A1A – As organizations gear up for the fall events, two major events are on tap for the Friends of A1A Scenic & Historic Coastal Byway, the biggest on November 18, 2023.

Hosting the 15th Annual Super Scenic 150 Mile Garage Sale this fall, the Friends of A1A are inviting vendors, sellers and businesses to register early.

“We’re excited to reach this milestone in the event’s history and hope to really pack the A1A Scenic Byway with participants this year,” said Byway Program Administrator Danielle Anderson.

In addition to the traditional large community sites such as Veterans Park, Hammock First Baptist Church and Vilano Beach Town Center, which host sellers who do not live on State Road A1A or don’t want shoppers at their home, businesses are invited to participate.

“It’s a great way to get your business name out there. A business can host a sidewalk sale, product demos, a special deal during the garage sale or even host a charity organization at their location to help support both their business and the charity,” she said. “Savvy charity organizations have raised thousands of dollars each year by participating in the event.”

“We do the publicity and marketing of the event throughout the southeastern United States, all paid for by the nominal registration fee. As a registered participant, your business is listed on the official map released on the Friday before the event so shoppers know you support the Friends of A1A and are an official location for the sale. Shoppers just plug your address into their GPS and head on over, and that works for homes and subdivisions adjacent to A1A, as well. The misconception is you have to be on A1A, but we’ve had registrants from as far away as US 1. They just wanted to be listed on the map.”

The Super Scenic 150 Mile Garage Sale began as just 72 miles along the A1A Scenic Byway but on the tenth anniversary expanded to include Florida Scenic Highway Partners from the north and the south. Starting in Nassau County along the A1A Ocean Islands Trail the sale runs through Nassau, Duval, St. Johns, Flagler and Volusia counties, where the Ormond Scenic Loop & Trail and the Halifax Heritage Byway also participate.

“The event has provided a way for us to connect at a deeper level with our fellow scenic highways and strengthen our support for one another. We’re proud of the relationships developed and our mutual investment to drive positive economic impact in our communities along the scenic highways. An added benefit of the event comes from raising awareness for the cultural and historic value of these treasures – not just fun or nostalgic finds during the garage sale, but the priceless gems of our northeast and Central Florida communities.”
