“I tell researched stories of Florida History – some I hope you find are new – Bill Ryan
If you’ve ever made a trip to the archives of the Flagler County Historical Society for research or to browse, chances are you’ve met Bill Ryan.
Serving as a director of the Flagler County History Society, and as a member of the Florida Scenic Highway’s “Florida Heritage Crossroads” group now marking and designating historic sites in Flagler County Florida, Bill gives many talks on early Florida history, He will be the featured guest speaker for this week’s Tuesday Talks with the Palm Coast Historical Society on March 16th from 6:30 -7:30 pm.
Meet Bill…
William “Bill” Ryan of Palm Coast Florida was CEO of several high technology photographic companies and retired to a history rich area between St. Augustine and Daytona Beach Florida. He first wrote a pure history “The Search for Old Kings Road” which was the original highway into Florida built by the British before the American Revolution. Bill has a whole series of history books based around Old Kings Road. “I am Grey Eyes -a story of Old Florida” continues the early Florida history theme. “Osceola His Capture and Seminole Legends” offers new information on the famous Seminole leader.
Much of Bill Ryan’s information came from his search for the famous Old Kings Road.
Osceola was captured under a white flag of truce, an event not to the credit of the U.S. army. The book also contains a never-before-published story concerning a portrait of Osceola’s wife and child, made after his capture. It’s finding made national attention.
Bulow Gold has been ranked as “an important historical novel” and has launched an application of a “Friends of Bulow Park” group devoted to supporting this historical site as described in Bill’s book. He used actual, heavily researched characters, that relate this story in a first person tale.
“Door to Time in Florida” contains amazing yet true stories of Old Florida connected by a Time Travel Experiment by Tesla who was very real and has a strong Florida connection. Bill Ryan interconnects true, untold stories from original records, with “what might be” fiction, but then it might not. You choose!
“Search for the lost plantations of Flagler County Florida” is the latest from Bill Ryan and describes the now forgotten plantations destroyed in the Seminole conflict of 1835.
