PALM COAST, Fla. – Politics is a hot topic no matter which side of the aisle you’re on. But few really understand the mechanics behind running a political campaign and how influencers influence them.
Serving as Flagler Tiger Bay Club’s November keynote speaker, northeast Florida political consultant and author Carlos M. Cruz took it down to the bare basics during his presentation on November 21st at the Hammock Dunes Club.
Working with local, state and national candidates, two elected officials were present to share their experiences, Terrance Freeman, City of Jacksonville City Council Member Dylan Rumrell, Mayor of St. Augustine Beach.
Cruz drew a robust round of questions not only from the Flagler Tiger Bay Club members during the Q&A session, but during the Young Tigers session after the meeting.
Flagler-Palm Coast High School senior Gabriel-Michael Vigo offered Cruz a rapid-fire series of questions, encouraging others to share their thoughts and questions. The interaction demonstrated an actual interest and level of engagement from the students not frequently seen outside of party-based clubs and organizations.
“It’s so important because people don’t realize how much politics actually affects their life. You can’t go around complaining about the economy, how much things cost, and you don’t go out and vote and educate yourself,” said Vigo.
“You have to know why you’re voting. People fought and died for your right to vote to affect the country.”
FPC junior Karina Marcelus agreed, sharing what she learned during the luncheon.
“I feel like sometimes, as young adults, we don’t get to be involved and talk about politics, so it was just a very nice experience to be involved in something like that,” said Marcelus. “Maybe it’s something that can help change our future.”
Cruz enjoyed the opportunity to engage the Flagler County community.
“I hope the members, guests, and Young Tigers of Flagler Tiger Bay gained valuable insights into influence and the tools necessary to become impactful leaders in politics and society,” said Cruz.
“I challenge everyone to step forward, inspire others, and foster civility in our world, bringing hope for a brighter future.”
Friend, colleague, and professional leadership development consultant Dr. Joe Saviak hopes the sold-out crowd took notes on the information provided by Cruz during the luncheon.
“Carlos Cruz provided a valuable, actionable, and inspiring presentation on knowing yourself and identifying your values, hopes, and dreams so you can be the true success you desire.”
