BUNNELL, Fla. — On October 26, residents of Flagler County did their part for the 27th Drug Enforcement Administration’s National Prescription Drug Take Back Day.
The Flagler County Sheriff’s Office provided four locations, and residents turned in 51 pounds of unneeded or expired medication to be safely destroyed. The goal is to prevent prescription drug misuse and reduce the potential for accidental drug poisoning. Studies show a majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained by family or friends.
“I want to thank the community for helping us to dispose of unwanted and expired prescriptions properly and safely,” Sheriff Rick Staly said. “A special thanks to our partners, Publix and Walmart, and our deputies who assisted the community and staffed the drop-off locations.”
You can still dispose of unused medications. The Flagler Beach Police Department has a year-round drop-off location, and you can visit takebackday.dea.gov to find a year-round drop-off location near you.
