Portugal Day was celebrated in Palm Coast, FL on Friday, June 7th, with the raising of the flags: American and Portuguese in Palm Coast City Hall with the presence of several entities: Mayor Dave Alfin, Sheriff Rick Staly, Ilídio Pereira representing PALCUS in Florida and many people from the community.
On Saturday, June 8th, there was the traditional hoisting of those flags at the Portuguese American Cultural Center (PACC) with the same entities on this patriotic occasion celebrating Luís Vaz de Camões, the Portuguese Poet who wrote his epic work Os Lusíadas about the worldwide discoveries in the 16th century. After the hoisting of the two flags, Mayor Dave Alfin, Sheriff Rick Staly, and others spoke to an audience of more than 200 hundred people, which grew immensely when lunch was served. After the speeches, it was time for lunch and Father Sérgio Santos from St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church gave a special blessing in Portuguese for the Day of Portugal.
For entertainment there was Kenny Real, with the club full of people, the festivities continued with traditional food, drink and dancing. Later the Folklore group Rancho Corações de Portugal gave a great performance with the traditional dress and dancing.
