Flagler Beach, FL – The American flag flies proudly in front of the establishment each day, and veterans, law enforcement and first responders know if the doors are open, there’s a seat at the table for them.

Since opening his doors several years ago, owner Jamie Bourdeau has made his support for those who serve known and on Monday, after hosting the 4th Annual Irish Open Golf Outing at Grand Haven Country Club, was thrilled to welcome golf participants – including first responders back to the Beach Front Grille for a hot meal and a chance to compare scores.

It’s the fourth year Bourdeau has raised money for local law enforcement and the money is quickly put to good use.

“We’ve given them the money in the past and they’ve used it for things they need around the house,” said Bourdeau. “Bullet proof vests and things that they use for their own charity as well. We just donate to them and they do whatever they think they need is necessary.”

Members of the Flagler Beach Fire Department including fire chief Bobby Pace, were on hand to enjoy the day and support the event as first time recipients.

“We’ve never donated to the Flagler Beach Fire Department, we’ve always given it to the county, so this is Chief Pace’s first year to get a donation,” said Bourdeau.  “They can use it for different things as well.”

“It’s great. The relationship between Jamie and the Beach Front could not be better,” said Chief Pace. “His (Jamie’s) support for both police and fire, public safety as a whole, we count on him and it’s a great relationship. We value him and look forward to doing this for years in the future.”

Bringing in several thousand dollars for both the Flagler Beach Police Department and Fire Department had Chief Pace at a loss for words, but he was already considering where the funds would be most needed.

“I can guarantee they’ll go to good use,” said Chief Pace. “We’re looking at some water rescue equipment but haven’t hammered it down yet.”

Flagler Beach Police Chief Matt Doughney has seen the direct impact of the community’s support for the department in the past and was genuinely appreciative of the 162 players who came out to raise money and enjoy the day with them.

“It’s incredible,” said Chief Doughney. “The camaraderie of the players out here supporting the police and fire department mean the world to us.  It’s not all about the money, it’s all about our community giving us at the police department and fire department, an opportunity to use these funds outside of what we can do with our budget.”

This year, it looks like a new radar gun is on the wish list for the Flagler Beach Police Department.

“The goal is compliance, not to write a bunch of people tickets,” reminded Chief Doughney.
