The Flagler County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO) Real Time Crime Center (RTCC) Leadership Team attended the Inaugural Real-Time Symposium last week in California, where RTCC Supervisor Nikki North made a presentation on how to develop an RTCC unit. During the conference, Supervisor North was announced as the Vice President of the National Real Time Crime Center Association.
Supervisor North, alongside FCSO’s Commander Joe Barile, both participated in panels focusing on technological, foundational, analytical and collaborate topics in an effort to bring new strategies to crime centers across the country.
“This event was much needed in the world of growing technology,” Supervisor North said. “There are new crime centers popping up all the time, so being a part of our Real Time Crime Center from its origins allowed me to speak to those who are just starting out and it was a great networking opportunity as well.”
Hosted by the Elk Grove Police Department’s RTCC in Elk Grove, CA, FCSO’s team took part in seeing, sharing, learning and comparing practices being utilized in RTCC’s across the country. The four daylong conference brought together 42 agencies from around the nation to discuss success stories, learn about innovative and cutting edge technology, and the best practices for building, implementing and efficiently running a real-time crime center. Crime and intelligence analysts received a first-hand look at integration into real-time operations while learning about important tools that could be used in FCSO’s RTCC to help keep our community safer.
“This kind of educational opportunity allows us to better serve our community,” Sheriff Rick Staly said. “Our crime analysts and RTCC have played an important role in reducing crime, quickly solving crimes, and preventing crimes of opportunity since we use the latest technology. I’m proud of Supervisor North’s dedication and being selected as the Vice President of the National Real Time Crime Center Association. It is a great honor for her and our agency and we are proud to have her as part of our team.”
The National Real Time Crime Center Association was recently established and announced at the Symposium. The goal of the association is to become a collaborative advocacy and information group for all real time crime centers to interact with, use as a resource for best practices and equipment reviews, and be the foundation of suggested policies and procedures for efficient real time crime center operations. The Board of Directors consists of members from various states across the country.
