Assistance came early for students at Flagler Technical College as regional business Spherion Staffing disbursed their annual Give Back allocation for 2021.
“Here at Spherion, we make it a priority to be involved in our local communities, by supporting those that make a difference within them. Our team works hard day in, day out to match amazing businesses in our community with the talented individuals who live within them,” said Spherion Staffing area manager Danielle Silva, accompanying new owner John Kirkman to the presentation in late December 2021.
“We have chosen FTC to receive the $1000 for their student scholarship fund. This $1000 contribution is part of Spherion’s Community Give Back program and recognizes the importance of a skilled educated workforce and rewarding career opportunities,” she said.
Presenting the check on December 21st, Travis Thomas, Adult General Education Program Facilitator for Flagler Technical College said the $1000 check will be a boost for the Flagler Technical College Scholarship fund.
“This fund, which any individual or business can donate to, is in place to help students in financial distress cover costs of various academic pursuits through FTC, including tuition, testing, and other academic-related costs that a student may be otherwise unable to pay,” said Thomas.
“Considering that tuition for GED or ESOL at FTC is only $50 per semester, this contribution can go a long way in helping many financially distressed Flagler County residents make positive changes in their lives through adult education including obtaining an official Diploma, developing English proficiency, and even getting in-demand career training,” he said.
“Spherion’s contribution and those of other generous donors help entire families improve their life situation while also fueling our local economy with more adults prepared for today’s workforce needs.”
