DAYTONA BEACH – SMA Healthcare has been awarded a NAVIGATE grant from Lutheran Services Florida (LSF) to assist individuals who are dealing with First Episode Psychosis (FEP). SMA Healthcare will utilize the NAVIGATE team model to help address FEP in Volusia County.
“SMA Healthcare is thrilled to receive this grant from LSF,” said SMA Healthcare CEO Ivan Cosimi. “Being able to provide treatment right away to those individuals who are dealing with FEP will be an important step in their recovery journey. The presence of the NAVIGATE Team will allow us to provide even greater care to our community.”
NAVIGATE is a comprehensive treatment program for people who have had a first episode of psychosis, a serious condition characterized by a disconnect from reality. This might involve seeing or hearing things that other people cannot see or hear and believing things that are not true.
Treatment is provided by a team of mental health professionals who focus on helping people work toward personal goals and restore functioning to the highest possible level. More broadly, NAVIGATE helps clients and families navigate the road to recovery and resiliency from an episode of psychosis, including getting back to functioning well at home, at work or school, and in society.
The NAVIGATE team will consist of a director, family clinician, Advanced Practical Registered Nurse, supported employment education specialist, individual resilience training clinician, peer support specialist, and case manager.
