FLAGLER COUNTY, Fla. – On June 6, Flagler County Fire Rescue’s Engine 16 was dispatched to Destination Daytona for a performer experiencing a medical emergency.
When Engine 16 arrived, they found the patient in cardiac arrest with bystanders already performing CPR. The crew immediately took over resuscitation efforts, working together to provide high-quality CPR and advanced lifesaving care for approximately 18 minutes.
Their efforts were successful—the patient regained a pulse.
When Volusia County EMS arrived, Engine 16 continued assisting with patient care and transport to AdventHealth Daytona Beach.
Less than a week later, the patient walked out of the hospital.
This incredible outcome highlights the importance of the entire Chain of Survival—from bystanders recognizing an emergency and starting CPR, to firefighters, paramedics, hospital staff, and everyone involved working together to give a patient the best possible chance of survival.
Earlier this week, the crews of Engine 16 and Volusia County EMS were recognized by AdventHealth with lifesaving awards for their exceptional care and teamwork.
Congratulations to everyone involved in this remarkable save.
This story is also a powerful reminder: Bystander CPR saves lives. Learning CPR could give you the ability to save the life of a family member, friend, coworker, or even a complete stranger.
