PALM COAST, FL (June 18, 2021) – Flagler County’s unemployment rate dropped to 5.1% in May 2021, with 745 new jobs being filled, according to today’s data release from the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity.
“Last month the Chamber launched our ‘Return to Work’ initiative, and that’s what people are doing, returning to work. The labor force has increased, the number of jobs filled has increased and the Chamber looks forward to more positive economic headlines as we continue to recover from the pandemic recession,” said Palm Coast-Flagler Regional Chamber President & CEO Greg Blosé.
Flagler County employment grew from 45,047 in April 2021 to 45,792 in May 2021, an increase of 745 new jobs. Meanwhile, the labor force grew from 47,591 in April 2021 to 48,233 in May 2021, an increase of 642 Flagler County residents.
Looking back at data from a year ago, the unemployment report also shows that in the past 12 months, Flagler County has created 6,287 jobs.
“It’s important for unemployed residents to know that the additional $300 weekly Federal pandemic unemployment payment will end next week on June 26, 2021. It will be more important than ever for those on unemployment to secure one of the many open jobs in our communities, considering the massive reduction in unemployment compensation payments on the horizon, Blasé said.
