Members of the Flagler Palm Coast Amateur Radio Club, along with Daytona Beach Amateur Radio Association, the Flagler Emergency Communications and other local Amateur Radio operators, or “hams,” will be participating in the national Amateur Radio Field Day exercise, June 26 – 27 at Hammock Dunes Community Center, 69 MalaCompra Rd., Palm Coast, FL 32137, starting at 2pm.
Since 1933, ham radio operators across North America have established temporary ham radio stations in public locations during Field Day showcasing the science and skill of Amateur Radio. This event is open to the public and all are encouraged to attend. Masks are suggested but not mandatory.
For over 100 years, Amateur Radio has allowed people from all walks of life to experiment with electronics and communication techniques, as well as to provide a free public service to their communities during disasters when cell phones and the internet are unavailable.
Per Bart Jahnke, W9JJ, ARRL’s Radiosport Manager, “Each year, ARRL Field Day is Amateur Radio’s opportunity to demonstrate our ability to communicate with others when commercial communication is challenged.
As we did last year, and for decades before, we will again offer a hands-on example of our abilities to our visiting served Agency Partners and Municipal Agencies showing that Ham Operators can accommodate local, national or even international communication challenges, even a pandemic, allowing hams to operate from home.
Last year, more than 10,000 Amateur Radio Stations participated in our weekend emergency exercise. Amateur Radio Operators are truly a National Resource!”

Anyone may become a licensed Amateur Radio operator. There are over 779,000 licensed hams in the United States, as young as 5 and as old as 100.
And with clubs such as Flagler Palm Coast Amateur Radio Club, Daytona Beach Amateur Radio Association, and Flagler Emergency Communications Association, it’s easy for anybody to get involved right here in the Palm Coast, Flagler, and Daytona Beach areas.
