Palm Coast – Florida State Representative Paul Renner invited the Palm Coast Fire Department Honor Guard to present the Nations Colors on the House Floor on the first day of the 2024 Legislative Session, 91st Florida House of Representatives since Statehood in Tallahassee on Tuesday.

Speaker Renner has been a long supporter of Firefighters and Law Enforcement, especially the Palm Coast Fire Department.  In his Speaker Designation address to the Florida House of Representatives in 2022, Speaker Renner stated that “first responders put their own safety at risk to save ours, and we will always have their backs.”

This was a significant honor for the members of the Palm Coast Honor Guard participating in the ceremony.  It was an opportunity to represent the City of Palm Coast and the Florida Fire Service at the State Capitol.  This was the third time the Palm Coast Fire Department received an invitation to participate in a ceremony of State significance; they were invited to the House Designee Ceremony in September 2021 and the 91st Organizational Session in November 2022 by Speaker Renner.

Palm Coast Mayor David Alfin expressed his admiration for the Honor Guard, stating, “Our Fire Department stands as a beacon of excellence among public servants. Gratitude to Representative Renner for extending the invitation to our Honor Guard, representing not just the City of Palm Coast but also the exemplary Florida Fire Services, at this week’s Speaker Designee ceremony at the Capitol. This distinguished occasion will undoubtedly be etched in the memories of all participants as a pivotal moment in their careers.”

The Palm Coast Fire Department Honor Guard was established in 2001 to represent the members of its department, their families, and the citizens that they protect and serve during formal occasions. The Honor Guard projects a positive image of the Department and its members by performing as a well-trained professional unit at local and national events.

“Honor Guard service is selfless; They perform their duties and expect nothing in return,” emphasized Palm Coast Fire Chief Kyle Berryhill. “Being the ambassadors of our City at the State Capitol is a significant milestone for our Honor Guard. We’re proud and thankful for the dedication of this team.”

While at the State Capitol, the Palm Coast Fire Department Honor Guard was given the opportunity to meet Lieutenant Governor Jeanette Núñez, Attorney General Ashley Moody, and Commissioner of Agriculture Wilton Simpson.

Representative Paul Renner was formally elected by the House Republican Conference to serve as the next Speaker of the Florida House of Representatives in September 2021.  Speaker Renner began his term as Speaker of the House following the 2022 elections. Renner was first elected to the House in a 2015 special election in the district representing Flagler, St. Johns, and Volusia counties.
