Palm Coast — The City of Palm Coast proudly hosted the third annual Countywide Capital Improvement Project Summit, bringing together representatives from Flagler County, the cities of Palm Coast, Flagler Beach, Bunnell, and the town of Beverly Beach. This collaborative event took place on Thursday, November 2, 2023, at Palm Coast City Hall.

The Summit provides a unique opportunity for Flagler County and its municipalities to come together to discuss and plan for a resilient and sustainable future. The overarching themes of the meeting were facilities, public safety, utilities, and transportation.

The highlight of the event was a presentation on “Green Infrastructure & Community Resiliency” by Maeven Rodgers, Chief Sustainability & Resiliency Officer for the City of Palm Coast. Ms. Rodgers, an expert in the field, shared insights on how green infrastructure initiatives can enhance community resiliency and sustainability, making the region better prepared to face future challenges.

In addition to Ms. Rodgers’ presentation, the summit featured presentations by representatives from each participating County, City, and Town, outlining their 1-to-5-year priority projects. This comprehensive overview will provide a clear picture of the development and infrastructure improvement plans for the entire region.

One of the primary goals of the summit is to foster discussions about grant alignments and potential collaborations that can make these projects a reality. By aligning resources and expertise, Flagler County and its municipalities aim to maximize the positive impact of their capital improvement initiatives.

Palm Coast City Manager Denise Bevan, a strong advocate for regional cooperation and sustainable growth, shared her excitement about the summit, stating, “This event exemplifies the power of collaboration. By coming together, we can pool our resources, knowledge, and experience to build a stronger, more resilient community for ourselves and future generations.”

County Administrator Heidi Petito added, “This kind of cooperation and strategic planning is essential for the growth and well-being of our residents. By working together, we can ensure that our investments are aligned with the needs and priorities of our community, resulting in more efficient and effective use of resources. Together, we can build a brighter future for our county and its residents.”

Dale Martin attended the summit for the first time since accepting the role of City Manager for Flagler Beach. He stated, “I have been warmly welcomed to Flagler County by government officials and staff beyond Flagler Beach and I look forward to growing these new relationships. This morning’s collective presentation by various representatives demonstrated two key points: first, the government staff have outstanding professional relationships, and second, many of our issues- utility infrastructure, resiliency, roads, and aging facilities- are common throughout the County. By working together, we can likely succeed in addressing many of these issues from a wider perspective to benefit all of our residents.”
