September 29, 2023 – Flagler County Emergency Management received word on Wednesday (September 27) that it has earned its accreditation through the Emergency Management Accreditation Program (EMAP) along with a dozen other agencies across the country. Accreditation is valid for five years.
“Last night I received a phone call from a member of the Emergency Management Accreditation Program’s Commission, advising that Flagler County has been awarded accreditation under the Emergency Management Accreditation Program,” said Emergency Management Director Jonathan Lord on Thursday. “I am beyond proud of not just the Emergency Management team, but the entire Emergency Management program – which includes all county departments, municipalities, partners, and our entire community.”
To achieve accreditation, applicants must demonstrate through self-assessment, documentation, and peer-assessment verification that its program meets the Emergency Management Standard that is certified by the American National Standard Institute (ANSI) and complies with EMAP’s mission to build safer communities through credible standards of excellence.
“We used the accreditation process to objectively validate the capabilities of our disaster preparedness and response systems,” Lord said. “Our Emergency Management Program has demonstrated its accountability and focus on the areas and issues needed to heighten our preparedness efforts toward any manmade or natural disaster that may affect our Flagler County community.”
The accreditation process evaluates emergency management programs on compliance with requirements in sixteen areas including: planning; resource management; training; exercises, evaluations, and corrective actions; communications and warning; and administration.
“Congratulations to those programs that have maintained their accredited status, as well as those who have joined the elite leaders in emergency management having earned accreditation through the Emergency Management Accreditation Program,” said EMAP Commission Chair Angee Morgan. “Through their commitment and leadership, they have proven to their communities and stakeholders that their programs are sustainable and that they continue to focus on their communities’ best interests.”
