Palm Coast – The Flagler-Palm Coast Kiwanis Club has named Palm Coast Driver Engineer Anthony Pedersen as its 2022 Firefighter of the Year.

Pedersen, a firefighter with more than 5 years of service, started his fire service career with the Palm Coast Fire Department in July 2018; prior to that, he was a Volunteer Intern for 18 months. Anthony was born and raised in Palm Coast, a graduate of Matanzas Class of 2015. Driver Engineer Pedersen is a 2nd generation Palm Coast Firefighter; his father Erik previously served.

He obtained his paramedic certification in 2018 from Daytona State College and firefighter certifications in 2016. He was promoted to Driver Engineer this past February. Over the past five years, Driver Engineer Pedersen has been working toward accomplishing his Fire Officer and Fire Inspector Certifications.

Above and beyond his duties as a Driver Engineer, Pedersen has eagerly accepted to challenge to join the Lieutenant Mentoring Program, with the hopes of a future promotion.   Additionally, Anthony serves as the supply chain coordinator for the station and emergency medical supplies.

Pedersen was selected for this award by the fire department command staff because of his commitment to training and focus on future leadership.  Among his responsibilities is ensuring that all of the front line apparatus are fully stocked with the critical, lifesaving, emergency medical supplies such as medications, EKG pads and intubation supplies.

“Driver Engineer Anthony Pedersen is an emerging leader within the Palm Coast Fire Department,” said Fire Chief Kyle Berryhill, who nominated Pedersen for the award. “Anthony is an energetic, up and coming team member whose demonstrated leadership through joining the Lieutenant Mentoring program.

The Flagler-Palm Coast Kiwanis Club has been a local chapter of Kiwanis International for the past 40 years. This annual award is given to local firefighters during National Fire Prevention Week to recognize them for their service, dedication and commitment to their communities. The award was presented by Kiwanis Chapter Awards Chairman Frank Consentino.

Pedersen was unable to attend the original awards presentation. He was deployed to the City of Fort Myers Beach as part of an Advanced Life Support Engine 232 deployed to assist in answering 911 calls in Collier and Lee counties.
