Palm Coast, FL – August 13, 2024 – The 4th Annual 9/11 Memorial Tribute Climb is set to take place at the picturesque Hammock Beach Golf Resort and Spa. This year’s event, now recognized as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, aims to raise funds to enhance its impact and educational outreach. We anticipate over 150 climbers participating in this moving tribute.

Since its inception, the climb has grown exponentially from just 12 climbers to an impressive 100 climbers last year. As the event continues to gain attention and support, we are thrilled to welcome sponsors for this year’s climb, including participation from Flagler Schools, Flagler County Fire Rescue, Palm Coast Fire Department and other local organizations.

Educational Importance

Incorporating education into the climb is a priority for event founder Lacy Martin, who has secured a partnership with Flagler Schools. Keeping the memory of 9/11 alive and educating our children about its significance is crucial for our future. This summer, Lacy attended a civic leadership camp for local middle schoolers, where students wrote speeches about what 9/11 means to them. The highest-ranking student will present their speech during the event on September 11th.

Event Details

We invite all community members to join us for the 9/11 Stair Climb on Wednesday, September 11th, to witness this patriotic tribute to the lives lost on September 11th, 2001. The event will begin at 8:15 AM with a bagpipe performance by Lt. Patrick Juliano of the Palm Coast Fire Department, followed by the National Anthem sung by Melanie DiMartino. The ceremony will include speeches from students, local fire chiefs, and other dignitaries.

At precisely 8:46 AM, the time the first tower was struck, sirens will sound, and the climbers will begin their ascent of 110 flights of stairs, symbolizing the height of the towers. Each climber will carry poker chips bearing the faces of fallen firefighters, which will be placed on a hand-carved American flag at the end of the climb.

Community Participation and Support

We welcome participants and spectators to join us in this solemn tribute. Those wishing to wave flags in support are encouraged to attend. Registration for climbers and further event details can be found at www.911memorialclimb.com.

The Hammock Beach Golf Resort and Spa graciously hosts our first responders and climbers, providing lunch after the climb. The event will feature a patriotic display of local first responders, including Flagler County Fire Rescue, Palm Coast Fire Department, and the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office. There will also be an American flag flyover by Flagler County FireFlight and a landing zone with two helicopters on display.

A kids’ fun zone and an American flag station will be available for waving flags in support. This year, Dr. Jenn Thorton, a local chiropractor, will provide her state-of-the-art PEMF machine for muscle recovery for the climbers. Local vendors passionate about memorializing 9/11 will also be present to share information about their businesses.
