On November 14, 2023 the Community Foundation and United Way of Volusia-Flagler Counties cohosted with the Estate Planning Council of the Fun Coast a Financial Symposium.

One of the most valuable aspects of the Financial Symposium is the opportunity for our community to convene and explore pertinent subjects, all while earning the essential credits required by professional advisors. The primary objective is to foster a sense of unity within the community, equipping individuals with the skills necessary to thrive in today’s world of planned giving. Additionally, we facilitate meaningful connections between non-profits and financial advisors.

Attendees participated in up to three sessions, Creative Charitable Planning with Non-Cash Assets, Planned Giving with a Shoestring Staff & Shoestring Budget, and Developing Community Foundation Board Birddogs. Leading the sessions was the founder of Charitable Solutions and nationwide renowned speaker Dr. Bryan Clontz. Dr. Clontz specializes in non-cash asset receipt and liquidation, gift annuity reinsurance brokerage, actuarial gift annuity risk management consulting, emergency assistance funds, as well as virtual currency and life insurance appraisals/audits.

“We have seen a shift in how donors plan to give back to the community. Many prefer to give noncash asset gifts. Our aim is to empower local nonprofits with a strong foundation in harnessing the potential of noncash gifts, even when operating with limited resources and a small staff,” said Courtney Edgcomb, President & CEO of the Community Foundation and United Way of Volusia-Flagler Counties.

“The Financial Symposium was a great opportunity to collaborate with community players and learn new tools to support our clients and their philanthropic goals. The speaker was engaging and highly effective.” Echo Karras, J.D Director of Client Development at Engineered Tax Services.
