BUNNELL, Fla. — Talk about a great way to start the school day.
Educators across Flagler Schools received a welcome surprise Friday, Sept. 4, as the Flagler County Education Foundation awarded $75,000 in Hunter Grants to strengthen the connection between classroom learning and future careers.
Made possible through the Hunter Foundation’s continued support, the grants will enhance the district’s Classroom to Careers programs of study, giving students more opportunities to explore local career pathways and develop practical, workforce-ready skills.
These aren’t ordinary classroom enrichment grants. Hunter Grants specifically support career and technical education, industry-aligned coursework and hands-on learning. The funding will provide educators with industry-standard equipment, specialized resources and tools used in real-world professions.
This year’s awards will support several exciting initiatives, including specialized gear and equipment for the district’s Fire Academy, advanced technology for hands-on STEM programs and environmental science resources for school gardens. Through those projects, students will gain experience in fields ranging from public safety and technology to agriculture, sustainability and biology.
“The Hunter Foundation’s continued investment in our students and educators is helping us create meaningful pathways from the classroom to future careers,” said Teresa Rizzo, executive director of the Flagler County Education Foundation. “This $75,000 investment provides our Classroom to Careers programs with resources that allow students to gain hands-on experience, explore career opportunities, and develop skills that will prepare them for what comes next.”
Rizzo added that the Education Foundation is “incredibly grateful” for the Hunter Foundation’s partnership and continued commitment to Flagler Schools students.
The investment helps ensure students aren’t simply reading about potential careers—they’re getting their hands on the tools, technology and equipment professionals use every day. Those experiences can help students identify their interests, understand the education or training required and envision a clearer path beyond graduation.
