We are a battery with a finite amount of energy each day.  Do we spend it on high value activities or waste it?

I don’t get offended by how I’m treated.  It’s a waste of limited emotional energy.  I’m never disappointed to be disappointed.  Not everyone is a joy to deal with – count on some people being who they are.  People use drama to try to get their way.  They do it because of who they are.

Nursing hurts or slights or insults is dumb – I don’t do it.  It gives power to the wrong people and rewards the wrong behavior.  I’m not going to play my role in their drama.  I’m never the victim.  I’m always the leader.

Leaders rely on logic, evidence, and ethics.  Leaders don’t create or encourage or allow drama.  People won’t follow drama.  They’ll leave because of it.

As a leader, I am rightly concerned if team members or customers  are mistreated or the mission or culture is compromised.  Addressing this quickly and effectively is my responsibility.

Always stay focused on the mission and the team.  If it helps the team and mission, do it.  If it does not, then don’t.  Remove yourself from the equation.

Conserve and invest your energy in what truly matters.  Your  energy is for the team and the mission.  That’s productive.  That’s leadership.
