1. How did the show get started and who’s idea was it?

The Ultimate Disney Tribute Band: The Little Mermen began as a magical idea almost a decade ago. While working various music gigs as a multi-instrumentalist and singer-songwriter, I aspired to elevate my passion for Disney songs into something truly extraordinary. Originally a solo venture, the idea blossomed into a full-fledged rock band as fellow Disney enthusiasts & top notch musicians joined the journey. Our first sold-out show at NYC’s Webster Hall marked the beginning of a musical celebration that wasn’t just a musical success; it was a philanthropic extravaganza for the non-profit organization Musicians On Call, that brings the healing power of music to healthcare facilities. The band now includes not just “dudes”, but also a ‘Powerhouse Princess Posse’ of talented ladies. Our name may have started as a fun pun, but it has evolved into a more inclusive celebration of Disney magic. Now, we’re excited to bring our rockin’ toon tunes to Flagler!

2. What is it about Disney songs and characters that you think people of all ages love so much?

Disney has a magical way of transcending generations with its storytelling, stunning visuals, and music. The songs and characters resonate with people of all ages because they tap into universal themes of love, adventure, and self-discovery. There’s something timeless and nostalgic about Disney that brings out the inner child in everyone, fostering a sense of joy and wonder.

3. Do you have a favorite character and song to perform?

Choosing a favorite character or song is like picking a favorite star in the sky—impossible! Each member of The Little Mermen has their personal favorites, and that diversity is what makes our performances special. But if I had to pick one, it would be our rocking rendition of Bare Necessities!

4. What can the audience expect from the show, and is there a specific age group that would enjoy it?

You can expect an unforgettable time filled with Disney magic, lively performances, and a few surprises along the way. This year we’re celebrating 100 years of Disney! Our show is designed for audiences of all ages—young and young-at-heart alike. Whether you’re a kid experiencing the magic for the first time or an adult reliving cherished memories, there’s something for everyone in our musical journey under the sea and around the Disney universe.

5. Will there be a meet and greet with fans after the show?

Absolutely! We love connecting with our fans, and there will be a meet and greet after the show for photographs & autographs. It’s a chance for us to express our gratitude for the support of our fans and share in the joy that Disney music brings to all of us.

Bonus: If a performing arts student dreams of one day being in a show like this or working with the attractions, what advice would you give them?

As Walt Disney famously said: “Keep moving forward!” Follow your passion, practice your craft, and don’t be afraid to dive into the opportunities that come your way. Surround yourself with a supportive community of fellow dreamers, and remember that every performance, big or small, is a step towards realizing your dreams. The journey may have its ups and downs, but it’s the love for what you do that will keep you swimming in the right direction.

The Ultimate Disney Tribute Band: The Little Mermen will be at the Fitzgerald Performing Arts Center on December 29, 2023 with $5 tickets for children and $25 tickets for adults. The show is a fundraiser for Arts Education in Flagler Schools. Get Your Tickets Here.
