July 28, 2023 – Old Salt Park will reopen on August 5 – about two weeks ahead of schedule – as the first segment of the FEMA emergency dune project is moving along faster than anticipated. The work will be completely relocated to Jungle Hut Park, which will close on August 3.

“This is really very good news for the residents and communities along the coast as the peak of hurricane season is upon us,” said County Engineer Faith Alkhatib. “We appreciate how patient everyone has been during this critical work.”

Jungle Hut Park will have limited access to the beach through Wednesday, August 2, but will be fully closed on August 3 until sometime in late September. Afterwards, the dune project will move north to Marineland and the Matanzas Shores communities in late September.

All beachgoers in the area are asked to be alert and take caution, especially those with children and pets in tow, as there will be heavy equipment and dump trucks in use to accomplish the work.

“We really appreciate the understanding shown by our residents and visitors, because we know this is inconvenient for those who love to come to our beaches,” said County Administrator Heidi Petito. “This emergency dune project is important for the safety and well-being of all of Flagler County.”
