It’s been a challenging week in Flagler County with the passing of three residents, all tragic accidents. 

First, the shocking retention pond rescue and subsequent passing of Mark Anthony Smith on April 20th that has left friends and family reeling as they grapple with the unfathomable. Smith leaves behind a fiancee who is eight months pregnant, and her family has stepped in to ask for help from the community.

A second tragedy has struck a chord in Flagler County with the passing of 23-year-old Christian Romero. The son of Dawn and Miguel Romero, the loss of their son has impacted not only their family but the countless others who call them friends. From co-workers to classmates, the community is rallying to help where they can while attempting to come to terms with this senseless tragedy.

A vigil will be held Thursday evening, and Premium Parking has made the public parking lot available at no cost to attendees of the vigil.

While the restaurant is closed, the hospitality community, led by Karen Dion, CEO of Flagler Foodie Groupies, has rallied to support one of their own with more than a dozen restaurants pledging proceeds to help.
