FLAGLER COUNTY, Fla. – Audience members sat watching in disbelief as parents, professionals, and experts took to the podium one by one, each to speak their peace.

In all, 32 went on record, an astonishing 30 speakers in support of Flagler’s embattled superintendent heavily outnumbered the 2 against.

Presenting the most accurate representation of the data including a regional comparison that showed THE FACTS, Flagler’s longest serving school board member Colleen Conklin laid it out in terms even the most uneducated among the listeners could understand – Flagler Schools is on an upward trajectory and it is in part due to the teambuilding and laser focus of Superintendent Cathy Mittelstadt.

Coming from the ‘A’ rated St. Johns County, it was easy to put two and two together. Unfortunately, two plus two equaled three on Tuesday evening, the majority needed to sever ties with the talented educator and administrator.

Staunchly supported by Flagler school board member Cheryl Massero and Conklin, Mittelstadt’s loss was immediately felt by parents, teachers and administrators who shared their disappointment in the ‘newbie’ school board members who overrode the will of the voters by deciding not to renew or extend the district’s contract with the no nonsense superintendent.

Editor’s Note:

It was difficult to see a person who may not necessarily fit in with ‘the crowd’ being scapegoated and essentially bullied for standing her ground by standing up for the school district and the students.

It’s another sad day in the history of Flagler County.
